Ludwigshafen children's library: Return to the Reichert-Haus 2025 planned!
The Ludwigshafen children's library faces comprehensive modernization, which now takes longer and is more expensive than originally planned. While the city administration hopes that the library can return to the mayor-Reichert-Haus in the second half of 2025, there are some obstacles on the way to completion.
The work was originally sought, but pollutants in the existing building fabric as well as considerable damage to the concrete of the building delayed the work. These unforeseen problems have also led to the city administration from an increase in construction costs. A spokeswoman said that the approval for the adjustments to the costs in December should be requested in the meetings of the building and property committee and the city council. A total price for the renovation, which was previously calculated at around 5,983,000 euros, is currently expected. The majority of this sum, namely up to 90 percent, could be covered by funding from the federal and state governments, which are fed by the program "Growth and Sustainable Development - Sustainable City".increased costs for interior fittings
A critical area of financing that does not fall below the funding mentioned is the interior of the children's library. This is taken over by the architectural firm "Includi by Aat Vos", which was commissioned for an additional 95,130 euros. The cultural committee unanimously decided. The need for these funds resulted from additional requirements that have appeared in the course of the planning process. In addition, the extended construction period also requires longer artistic support for which the office is responsible.
The Mayor-Ludwig-Reichert-Haus, which was built in 1956 and is listed, will play a central role as a "third place" after the renovation, as the Dutch architect Aat Vos describes it. This term stands for a meeting place that attracts people and offers space for exchange, without commercial constraints. The concept aims to establish the library not only as a place for books, but also for community and interaction.
The planned return of the children's library into the redesigned building is eagerly awaited, especially with regard to the future role of the facility in the city. The challenges and the associated cost increases illustrate the complexity of the project and the need for careful planning and adjustments.
