Safe protection or sustainable trend? PSA in the focus of the discussion!

In an explosive interview, textile engineer Jan Kuntze, Managing Director of DBL Kuntze & Burgheim, reveals the explosive challenges in the maintenance of personal protective equipment (PSA). The safety of workers in critical industries such as petrochemistry and hazardous substances transport depends crucially on the quality and maintenance of work clothes. Kuntze emphasizes that protection over the entire deployment time of clothing must be guaranteed, which requires professional care and post -impregnation after many washing cycles.

But the topic is discussed with heated! The EU plans to banish fluorbon equipment that are essential for protection against chemicals. Kuntze urges: "A waiver of fluorarbon resin could lead to an increased risk of injuries." The safety of the workers is at stake, while the pressure is growing to use more sustainable materials. The current debate could have serious consequences for security at work.

The future of the PSA under pressure

The challenges are huge! Kuntze explains that FluorCarbonharz -free products currently offer only a limited water -repellent effect. "The manufacturers claim that these products are also suitable for chemical protection, but I cannot confirm that," he warns. The EU has agreed that only FluorCarbonharz -free products are allowed for PSA that do not belong to risk class 3. This could significantly endanger the safety of work clothes and raise the question of whether the alternatives can offer the necessary protection.

Another critical point is the ban on Pfas, a group of chemical compounds that are criticized because of their potential health risks. Kuntze predicted: "In 13 to 15 years, the use of these chemicals will be prohibited in the EU." The industry is faced with a massive changeover, and the time is for finding solutions that meet both the requirements for security and the new environmentally friendly standards.
