In a dramatic incident in the Mayen-Koblenz district, three young men have entered a shaft over 20 meters and fell in front of the police. The men, at the age of 16, 17 and 19, sometimes suffered the most serious injuries. Particularly tragic: According to the police, one of them has suffered “the most serious head injuries”. A complex rescue operation of the fire brigade, emergency services and mountain rescue service was necessary to rescue the injuries from the danger zone and to transport them into hospitals.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 7:00 p.m. when the trio with motorcycles was too fast. Police officers asked them to stop, but the young men ignored the instructions and left their motorcycles on the edge of the forest to flee on foot. The police could not find them at first. A motorcycle was also registered as stolen, which also escalated the situation.

About ten minutes after the escape, the men put an emergency call themselves after falling into the shaft. The shaft, which, according to the fire brigade is 28 meters deep, was apparently fenced, which raises the question of how the men could get into this dangerous situation. An attentive resident informed the emergency services about the alleged scene of the accident, which ultimately led to the discovery of the injured. The exact circumstances of the misfortune are still unclear and the police continue to determine.
