Film festival of generations: a festival for all ages!

district of Germersheim-the European Film Festival of the generations returns and takes place in the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region. From October to November 2024, numerous events in the Germersheim district invite you to film screenings in which admission is free. Curtain up and space for interesting conversations!

This festival is unique because it promotes intergenerational dialogue. After each film screening, visitors not only enjoy the films, but also have the opportunity to talk to experts from senior citizens' work, geriatric care and politics. Such discussions illustrate the effects of demographic change on one's own life and offer deeper insights into aging.

film selection and demonstrations

2024 await a total of 30 films, including six premieres. The demonstrations are distributed over six communities, with ten films being shown during the festival weeks. In Kandel, the film "Heaven Can Wait" will be presented in the town hall around October 12th, organized by the community community Kandel e.V. in Germersheim, from October 21 to 25, several films are on the program.

Another highlight will take place on October 23 in Rülzheim, where the film "Monsieur Pierre goes online" is shown. After the demonstration, a discussion round will take place under the moderation of Sebastian Hör, who deals with the challenges and opportunities of digitization in everyday life. An exciting opportunity to exchange ideas about the use of technologies in the healthcare system and the digitization of travel.

  • Margot Müller-Anhalt, author and traveler, shares her experiences and perspectives.
  • Christian Schwab, Mayor of Kuhardt, will take part as a further discussion partner.

These participants bring in different perspectives that illuminate the role of technology in the support of older people in the health sector. After the discussions, all guests are invited to a snack to promote the exchange with each other.

The festival is part of the nationwide series of events at the Freiburg Catholic University and the Institute of Gerontology at Heidelberg University. In the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region, the festival has been coordinated by the regional strategy of demographic change, which has the task of raising awareness of demographic change.
