Winter service in Trier: This is how the roadmasters are preparing for snow!
The Trier region is in the starting blocks for the winter! The first snowflakes could fall this week, and the roadmasters are ready to take up the fight against snow and smoothness. "As soon as it snows, we can get started," explains Karsten Becker from the Birkenfeld road maintenance department. With around 1,000 tons of road salt and a team of 20 employees in the three-shift system, they are well equipped to keep the streets safe.
in Hermeskeil, only 30 kilometers away, everything is also prepared for winter service. The Unimogs used for mowing work in summer are now equipped with clearing shields. Deputy head Thomas Arz reports that the wicker machines are already on the truck. The road maintenance department even optimized the routes for the stray vehicles in order to be able to react quickly and effectively to black ice and snow. "We have determined the duty rosters since the beginning of November so that everyone knows when they are in use," said Aryz.
winter service in continuous use
The challenges for winter service are enormous. Drivers who do not adhere to the security rules make the work of the clearing vehicles more difficult. "It already happened that we had to ring people out of bed at night because the road was so parked," reports Arz. It is also dangerous if vehicles with summer tires are on smooth roads. Becker warns: "We keep experiencing that trucks or cars are crossing because they are still driving with summer tires." In order to get through the winter safely, the state company Mobility in Trier advises to convert the vehicles to winter tires in good time.
While the winter services hope for quiet weather, the winter sports areas in the Trier region are looking forward to the first snow. On the Dollberg in the Hochwald, preparations are in full swing, with renovation work and the conversion of the floodlight system to LED technology. "The company starts as soon as the snow relief allows it," says ski club chairman Bernd Rüdenauer. The "Black Man" ski area in Gondenbrett is also ready, but is also waiting for the snow to put the lifts into operation.
