Price increase in animal welfare: Founding animal accommodation becomes expensive!

Germersheim, Deutschland - The accommodation of found animals is becoming increasingly expensive for many association communities in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Association of Germersheim has increased the annual flat rate for the accommodation of found animals at the Tierschutzverein Südpfalz from January 1, 2025. After the previous flat rate of one euro per inhabitant was no longer cost -covering, it will now be increased to 1.45 euros for the years 2025 and 2026 and to 1.90 euros for 2027 and 2028. According to the Mayor Iris Fleisch, it is about seven to eight found animals a year, which the community has brought total costs of around 16,337 euros per year for the next two years, as rheinpfalz.de reported.

decision in the Bad Kreuznach

Also in the Bad Kreuznach community, there is an increase in costs after the Council has decided to conclude a new contract with the local animal shelter to ensure the supply of the found animals. Animal protection association Bad Kreuznach reported that the fundraiser of around 60 cents has been increased to around 1.25 euros per inhabitant and year. This means that the community now has to pay around 17,500 euros annually to the shelter, which represents a doubling of the previous costs. The mayor Marc Ullrich expressed relief that the animals can continue to stay in the shelter, since otherwise the administration could not have guaranteed the accommodation, according to SWR.de .

Both associations are faced with the challenge of ensuring the financing of animal accommodation in the long term, while at the same time they have to meet the legal requirements for the species -appropriate accommodation of animals. The cost pressure on the animal welfare associations could lead to further discussions and possibly new solutions in the future.
