Anniversary in Bad Kreuznach: 100 years of youth welfare and digital treasures discovered!

An important step in the city history of Bad Kreuznach: Impressive archive documents were digitized for the 100th anniversary of the municipal youth welfare office. The city administration has collected numerous old documents, including administrative files, budget plans and council protocols, which document the development of the youth welfare office over a whole century. These valuable documents are now listed in a Findbuch that will soon be available on the homepage house-der-stadtgeschichte.de.

Mayor Emanuel Letz, at the celebration of the anniversary, said that the importance of the youth welfare office was impressively demonstrated for the city. "I am happy about the new basis for searching for traces for the youth," said Letz. In addition, Marvin Jung, the head of the youth and culture office, emphasized that digitization is not only historically valuable, but also serves as a reference for future generations. It is particularly regrettable that many archives from the early days of the youth welfare office are missing, as city archivist Franziska Blum-Gabelmann noted. Especially from the first years after the Second World War there is more information, since documents and notices have been well preserved there. Information about the foundation of the youth welfare office and its statutes from 1924 comes from the council protocol, which in the Findbuch was prepared for research purposes.

Digitization comes as part of the federal program "Living Democracy" and not only offers insights into the past, but also gives the opportunity to learn from history. A historical document shows the first head of the youth welfare office after the Second World War, Anna Luise Kirschstein, who was appointed to the office with specific qualifications. Your successors have been documented in the finding book, which has so far only been partially accessible through data protection regulations and therefore has therefore not yet been used for research purposes.
