Drinking water prices rise: Bad Neuenahr is preparing for the future!

In Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, citizens will have to expect higher prices for drinking water in the future. The supply takes place from the "Tritschkopf" flood container at the Hemmessener Hütte, and comprehensive measures are planned to increase supply security. In this context, an investment of 3.24 million euros is provided to prevent the lack of drinking water in the event of a disaster and due to climate change. These decisions are based on experiences from the flood disaster of 2021, in which the need for a stable infrastructure and a forward -looking storage became clear, as the Rhein-Zeitung reported.

As part of these measures, the findings from the flood disaster are also dealt with. The focus is on inter -municipal cooperation, which should also include future -oriented solutions. In addition, the German Association for Water Management, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) has published a position paper that deals with the provision against floods and heavy rain. The DWA President Uli Paetzel underlined the urgency of faster and extensive measures to counter the increasing challenges through climate change. According to dwa , climate change requires more intensive and frequent heavy rain events, which is why a holistic Risk management is increasingly necessary.

Various claims are set up in the position paper, including the integration of heavy rain prevention into the land use planning and the improvement of disaster management. Paetzel emphasized that complete protection against flooding was not possible, but preventive measures are urgently required.

The DWA also demands that building in flood -prone areas should be regulated more strictly. Measures such as the reactivation of floodplain and the promotion of removal measures are also on the agenda. For effective flooding, better availability of areas as well as clear communication of the risks to the citizens is essential to make the dangers and risk cards understandable.
