Randals near Lichtenberg: Memory of Luxembourg and Liebknecht threatens to escalate!
On January 9, 2025, a memorial event for Rosa Luxembourg and Karl Liebknecht took place in Lichtenberg, which is reminiscent of their murder on January 15, 1919. This event is traditionally celebrated every second Sunday of the year. In recent years, more and more young activists of the event have joined. The central cemetery of Friedrichsfelde, place of commemoration, is currently limited due to construction sites until December 2025.
In the run-up to the event, the Organizers expect around 10,000 participants. The police are planning an operation in the lower three -digit range, without additional support forces from other federal states. The protests in the previous year resulted in disputes in which 21 officials were violated. The stands of the event are built along Gudrunstraße, which is temporarily freed from traffic, but a construction site could lead to crowds.
Current developments and information
The organizers call for not producing any provocations to the police during the event. Certain slogans and symbols that are considered anti -Semitic or associated with terrorist organizations are prohibited this year. The background of these views is related to the solidarity of the activists for Kurdistan and Palestine, reinforced by the current situation in Syria and the conditions in Gaza.
On January 12, 2025, a protest is planned to be directed against the stationing of US weapons in Germany and also rejects arms deliveries to Ukraine and Israel. This is discussed in another article on the website of the ll-demo organization committees in which the continued relevance of peace, international solidarity and democratic rights is also emphasized.
