Pirna: Elberadweg becomes safer - start of construction for cycle path extension!

Pirna. On the popular Elberadweg , the pressure on cyclists will soon be reduced! At the dangerous bottleneck at the "Elbschlösschen", where the narrow band made of asphalt struck dangerous curves, is now being traded. So far, cyclists have had to jeopardize themselves on the narrow area, often faced with emergency braking when two cyclists met at the same time - a daring Situation for everyone! The city of Pirna has finally discovered a light at the end of the tunnel and is planning a bike -friendly solution!

The project has not come from a vacuum: several cyclists and associations, including the general German bicycle club (ADFC), repeatedly expressed their worries and demanded a widening of the endangered section. The city council finally admitted and the plans for the widening were decided in early 2023 as a preferred variant. Now the sufficient funding is also secured- a sum of about 120,000 euros has been approved to expand the bike path to 4 meters wide and create a safe separation of bike and foot traffic!

Investments in security

The assumption of costs is the first enjoyable message. The construction work for the Elberadweg is to start and include the creation of a 70 -meter -long and four meter wide route in the coming spring, which is intended to provide more clarity between the different road users with the help of a special covering. Another construction project on the outer Pillnitzer Straße will also make cycling more secure by setting up a separate bike path. Here too, safety for cyclists could be improved by marking and creating a traffic -safe wheel strip.
