Optimism in stores: Despite concerns, New Year's Eve purchases are booming for the new year
Preparations for the turn of the year are in full swing, and the New Year's celebrations promise a hustle and bustle in Austria. According to a recent survey by Reppublika on behalf of the trade association, the Austrians spend an average of 126 euros for New Year's Eve. In Vienna, expenses at 139 euros per person are the highest. While Styria and Carinthia remain the most economical at around 112 euros, the dealers are optimistic that around 10 percent of the Christmas business will be generated in these final days of the year. The food and beverage trade, as well as the paper goods and fashion markets, can look forward to a strong sales boost, since only 11 percent of those surveyed would like to do without additional purchases, as the 5min.at website reports.
worried expected in Germany
In contrast,In contrast, a survey in Germany shows that the citizens are concerned about the new year 2025. 63 percent of the respondents expressed fears about the upcoming challenges, which represents an increase of 4 percent compared to the previous year, as the DPA-AFX reports. The reasons for this concern are diverse: wars, climate change, economic uncertainties and continuing inflation concern people and contribute to the growing dissatisfaction with the crisis management of politics. This has fallen to a historical low, with only 23 percent satisfaction. In view of the growing social gap and increasing cost of living, fear of losing wealth is greatly widespread.
Despite the challenges, not every German sees only black: Almost half of the respondents have hope for an improvement in their personal economic situation. This represents a ray of hope, since during the past two years the concerns have decreased about their own financial situation, although 52 percent are still concerned. The thoughtful mood in Germany is in contrast to the optimistic shopping mood in Austria, which indicates a slight economic upswing.Details | |
