Austria's foreign trade: Exports break in - what are the reasons?
In November 2024, Austria's foreign trade experienced a significant decline, which is largely due to a weak international demand. Exports fell by alarming 14.7 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 16.32 billion euros. At the same time, imports decreased only by 3.9 percent and reached 16.51 billion euros. This led to a slight commercial balance deficit of 0.19 billion euros. Statistical evaluations of statistics Austria confirm that the decline in trading activities is severely correlated with the trading partner of Germany. Exports to Germany fell by 3.4 percent, which represents the seventh decline in the first eleven months of the year. In turn, imports from Germany recorded the ninth decline, this time by 3.3 percent, as vienna.at .
In the period from January to November 2024, exports shrank a total of 4.8 percent to 177.71 billion euros, while imports decreased by 7.6 percent to 174.65 billion euros. This led to a commercial balance sheet surplus of 3.06 billion euros. The data also show that trading with the ten most important import partners has decreased, with the exception of China, which has a slight increase in 0.1 percent. Imports from Switzerland fell particularly strongly by 32.3 percent, followed by a decline in Germany by 6.4 percent. These developments signal considerable challenges for the Austrian export industry, which can be found in a difficult international environment.
