Burscheid. A name that lights up in the gardening world: Reiner Höpken! The passionate gardener and entrepreneur from Grünscheid was awarded the honor medal in gold by the State Association of Gartenbau North Rhine-Westphalia. This prestigious award recognizes its outstanding merits both in volunteering and in his professional career. "I only buy potting soil from Höpken" - so the garden lovers in the region swear by the quality of its products!

Horticulture is pure höpken in the blood. Born in parental nursery on March 13, 1954, he expanded the company that his father founded in 1935 into a flourishing retail gardening with impressive 6000 square meters of high glass. His commitment to the association began in 2006, and a year later he took over the chair of the Rheinischer retail gardener. Under his leadership, the Sunday opening was expanded from two to five hours, and he campaigned for innovative marketing strategies to support the gardeners in the metropolitan area.

The negotiations during pandemic, where Höpken contributed significantly to ensure the permanent opening of the shops in North Rhine-Westphalia. His political engagement also extends to local politics: since 2009 he has been active as a CDU council member and brings his expertise to the city of Burscheid.

With a wink and Rhenish humor, Höpken has represented the interests of the retail gardeners at the state and federal level. Benedikt Jäger, spokesman for the Gartenbau State Association, praises him: "Reiner Höpken has represented the interests of the retail gardeners with high expertise and Rhenish humor." After the chair to Thorsten König, Höpken now has more time for his family and grandchildren, while his son Torsten continues to operate in Grünscheid.
