RV Siegburg celebrates 130 years of cycling history: an association with tradition!

The cycling club (RV) Siegburg is celebrating a remarkable anniversary this year: 130 years of successful club history. Founded on July 19, 1894 by seven enthusiastic cyclists, the association has developed over more than a century into an important institution in regional and national cycling. The RV Siegburg has changed steadily from its beginnings with bike tours and artificial trials and achieved great success in road cycling.

An often overlooked but decisive phase of the club history are the challenges that RV Siegburg had to survive during the two world wars. Despite these setbacks, the club always found new strength. An outstanding event was the orientation of the German road championship of the professional drivers in 1964, in which around 50,000 spectators took part. In this race, the well -known cycling professional Rudi Altig celebrated his victory, which helped the RV Siegburg an excellent reputation as an organizer in German cycling.

A legacy in cycling

One of the most outstanding personalities in the club is Klaus-Peter Thaler, who in the 1970s contributed a lot to make RV Siegburg known internationally. Thaler, multiple world champion and participant in the Olympic Games, has brought the club into international focus due to his sporting successes and made it into an icon in the region.

But also in indoor cycling, the association has written history, especially in cycling polo and art cycling. In the 1970s and 1980s, the athletes Susanne Maubach and Bärbel Winter obtained numerous German championship titles and thus shaped the reputation of the association for many years. The German student championship in the Radpolo, which took place in Siegburg for the first time in 1977, was another significant moment in the development of the association. Miriam Maubach nostalgically remembers her time in the Radpolo: "I was 14 when I played Radolo. My bike from back then is still playing today."

Another significant step for the development of the association was the founding of the bike tourism department 1980. The Konrad-Adenauer-Memornistour, which has been carried out every year since then, is one of the best-known events in the region and regularly attracts hundreds of participants. This shows the versatility of the association, which also established a gymnastics department under the direction of Sibylle Maubach in order to offer a wide range of offer for all age groups.

In the latest club history, the role of Miriam Maubach particularly stands out, which was the first woman as the first woman to chair the RV Siegburg. It continues the tradition of strong youth work and emphasizes the motto "Cycling for everyone". Under your guidance, both competitive sports and popular sports are promoted, with the RTF department has developed into a group with the strongest group. "Sport with like -minded people in the community not only promotes physical fitness, but also social well -being," emphasizes Maubach.

A look into the future

The RV 1894 Siegburg has an impressive record of sporting success, social events and voluntary commitment over 130 years. Association board member Joachim Hofferek explains to the anniversary: "We also want to address the more mature and young at heart and encourage our sport. Cycling can be exercised from any retirement age." This openness and will to achieve a broader target group show that the association always tries to develop and meet the latest demands.

The 130th anniversary of the RV Siegburg not only testifies to a deep tradition in cycling, but also from a continuous pursuit of progress and inclusion. At a time when the social challenges grow steadily, the RV Siegburg remains an example of how community values and sport can flow into one another in order to have a positive impact on people's lives.
