Digital revolution in the Rhein-Sieg district: Administration becomes paperless!

The digitization of the district administration in the Rhein-Sieg district is progressing quickly. A central goal is to create largely paperless administration. According to a current report, the immigration office has already digitized around 50,000 files. In addition, the external service provider of Rhein-Sieg workshops digitized around 8 million pages, which includes about 40 tons of paper or 800 meters of files. As part of this project, which took about 2.5 years, two file rooms were also completely emptied, which are now available as an office space.

From the end of January 2025, it will be possible to apply for a residence permit digitally. The inbox of the immigration office is also digitized, which enables almost paperless processing. A total of around 3,500 applications per month go online at the district administration, with increasing trend. From January to the end of November 2024, around 8,200 applications for registration or re-registrations of motor vehicles as well as a good 5,000 applications in the driver's license were recorded.

Bundid for the future of administration

In addition, the Rhein-Sieg district introduces the Bundid for digital administration. As a result, users will only need one account for various online services in the future. Among other things, the Bundid enables registration and re-registrations of cars as well as registrations for the fishing examination and instructions according to the Infection Protection Act. The central online account facilitates identification for applications, for example via the online ID or an Elster certificate, and enables the automatic transfer of personal data to new applications.

A central mailbox is provided for all applications and messages, regardless of the respective authority. District director Svenja Udelhoven emphasizes the advantages of digitization and indicates that the current Service account.nrw will be switched off nationwide in June 2024 in order to be replaced by the Bundid.
