Straw bales Inferno in Recklinghausen-Hochlar: Fire brigade in continuous use!
In the dusk on October 16, 2024, the Recklinghausen fire brigade was called to a fire in the Hochlar region. At 8:07 p.m., the district control center alerted the emergency services after the fire was reported by several straw bales. This later turned out to be a significant incident in which a total of around 300 straw bales were on fire. Fortunately, there were no injured people.
The emergency services found a large fire when they arrived on site, which is why city alarm was triggered at 8:12 p.m. in order to mobilize the volunteer fire brigade units. This was necessary because the fire, if it had not been contained immediately, could spread to adjacent areas.
operational strategies of the fire brigade
To prevent the fire from spreading further, two fire sections were set up. The emergency services focused on building a bar position. This means that measures have been taken to limit the fire to the areas already affected. The fire brigade was used with respiratory protection teams, and two telescopic loaders were also used. These heavy devices helped to disassemble the burning straw bales and ensure that the not yet affected bales did not get on fire.
The fire fighting dragged on until the early morning of October 17th. During this time, numerous firefighters were deployed, including both full -time forces and volunteer members of the South, Hochlar, East, Old Town and Speckhorn. A rescue unit with an ambulance and an emergency doctor was also on site to be able to intervene quickly in the event of further emergencies.
An additional volunteer fire truck from Suderwich took over the protection of the city during the mission, since the fire and rescue station on Kurt-Schumacher-Allee was temporarily not occupied. In order to warn of possible ornaments from the fire, a Nina warning message was also issued to the population in the area.
Overall, this incident shows how the fire brigade and the involved emergency services react quickly and effectively to a threatening situation. The complete containment of the fire stove and the ensure that nobody was harmed are a commendable result of the coordinated operational strategies that are used in such crisis situations.
