In Recklinghausen, the alarm bell will ring! The police strike with full strength against the threatening knife power. A single stab can erase a life and turn the future of a person upside down! The alarming statistics show that more and more young men think they have to protect themselves with knives. But what is intended as protection often turns into a deadly weapon.

The numbers are terrifying: Often it is conflicts among acquaintances that escalate in the darkness of the night. Around 50 percent of the suspects are under 21 years old, and almost half has no German passport. The police have the situation in view and already takes measures to combat this threatening development. Individual weapon carrier bans have been issued and it is regularly checked where weapon prohibition zones can be set up.

The security situation at events is reinforced by a “strategic search”, which enables the police to carry out controls without specific occasion. These measures aim to create a safe environment, as recently "Recklinghausen shines" during the event. Special action days took place on October 23 to increase the pressure on dangerous objects.

In order to communicate the message clearly, the police officers have been since November 4th. On the go with posters and flyers, which in several languages the call "better without a knife!" spread. Police President Friederike Zurhausen emphasizes: "A dispute - a stab - a destroyed life. This chain must be broken!"
