Future workshop: Cycling in the Bergisches Rheinland safer and more attractive!

Wermelskirchen, Deutschland - A new chapter for bicycle mobility in Rhineland in Bergisch has started! As part of the “Future Workshop Bicycle Mobility” in Wermelskirchen and Radevormwald, around 50 representatives of local and district administrations as well as the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) discussed burning questions to improve the bike paths. How can we increase the security and attractiveness of cycling? This event, which was organized with the support of regional 2025 as well as several counties and cities, represents a decisive step towards networked mobility.

Inspirational impulses came from the experts Tim Adema and Sjors from Duren from the "Dutch Cycling Embassy". They emphasized that a holistic view of the traffic system and a well -designed street space not only make the traffic signs tangible, but also promote a more considerate coexistence. "The street tells a story" - this is how Duren describes the philosophy behind intelligent traffic planning. It is not only the infrastructure that counts, but also their understandability and use by the drivers.

The conference also highlighted the challenges that shape the Bergisches Land: topographical difficulties, nature conservation requirements and the dominant vehicle infrastructure often make cycling use. A central example was the K 18 district road in Wermelskirchen, in which the safety concerns of the cyclists are to be tackled. At the same time, the integrated near -Nabermobility concept in Radevormwald was discussed, which is planning the redesign of Kaiserstraße/Hohenfuhrstraße. With creative ideas and pragmatic solutions, such as the use of pictogram chains, quick improvements for the bicycle traffic situation should be made possible. The results were finally presented in an online forum, which further promotes the exchange on these important topics.
