Strong training market in the Oberberg: Brehmer Group as a model!

In the Oberberg district, those responsible cheer on a stable training market that asserts themselves despite challenging economic conditions. In a press conference, Marcus Otto from the district craftsmen, Nicole Jordy from the Employment Agency and Michael Sallmann from the IHK Cologne, emphasized that the number of applicants rose compared to the previous year. "It is a very solid training market in the Oberberg district that defies the difficult economy," said Carsten Berg from the Cologne IHK.

The Brehmer Group, which is considered a positive example, is particularly noteworthy. The company, founded in 2003, has developed from two to around 100 employees in the past two decades and offers a variety of training positions. Seven new trainees were hired this year, which increases the total number to 13. The Brehmer Group relies on innovative recruitment strategies, including the use of social media such as Tiktok to win young talents.

The labor market numbers also show a mixed balance: in October the number of unemployment dropped slightly, while the number of open spots increase to 2,450. The unemployment rate remains stable at 5.4 percent. Despite a slight decline in the completed training contracts in the region, those responsible are optimistic that the willingness to train in the craft professions, especially in the area of sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology, will continue to increase.
