Security service at the Gummersbacher bus station: Does that protect us?
The OVAG, an urban company, has reacted to the rising violence at the Gummersbacher bus station by now hiring a security service. This will work for 15 hours a day to ensure security in this central area, especially until 1 a.m.
The event for this decision lies in a shocking incident that only took place in February of this year when a murder at the bus station shook the public and significantly impaired the feeling of security of the residents. Mayor Frank Helmenstein pushed to this measure, and OVAG, which is responsible for the bus station, reacted promptly. Helmenstein expressed grateful for the quick implementation of this initiative.
addition to existing security measures
The introduction of the security service is intended to serve as an additional measure in addition to the police and the regulatory office, which are already regularly monitoring the bus station and its surroundings. In an official announcement by the OVAG it was clarified: "Where many people meet, there can also be conflicts."
The security service will not only act as a contact for the bus drivers who take their due breaks there, but is also available to passengers. The presence of this security employee starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 a.m. The effectiveness of this measure is regularly decided to react to any changes.
The order for the security service was awarded to the Schutzschild company, which operates both in Cologne and in Gummersbach. The decisive decision for the commission was unanimously made by the OVAG supervisory board, which is made up of representatives of the shareholders, including the Oberberg district and the city of Gummersbach, as well as from employee representatives.
With this measure, OVAG hopes to strengthen the feeling of security of the citizens and prevent future violent incidents. The focus is not only on pure security, but also on personal contact and support for the users of the bus station, which could improve the quality of life in the region.
