Oberberg together acts against sexual violence on children!
In the bitter struggle against the terrible reality of sexual violence against children, experts from all over Oberberg have joined together! This Monday, November 18, the "European Day to protect children from sexual exploitation and sexual violence" is celebrated. This is the perfect occasion for the four Oberbergische advice offices to put their important work in the spotlight and reduce barriers.
The house for everyone in Waldbröl, the Wipperfürther Herbstmühle, the Baumhof advice center in Gummersbach and the private association Nina and Nico are also on board. These committed organizations are ready to give answers to the most pressing questions and to sensitize the public. There is no “typical” sign of sexualized violence, warns Melina Kyranoudis from the house for everyone. If a child's behavior suddenly changes, vigilance is required! A retreat or aggressive reactions can be alarming signals. "Listen and get advice yourself," she recommends.
hurdles for those affected and support options
The consultants warn of the most common hurdles that prevent those affected from taking help: shame and feelings of guilt! Many fear the consequences or do not believe that they are believed. But one thing is clear: the victims are never to blame! The advice centers offer different formats - by phone, by video or personally - to make access to help. The advice is individual, trauma -sensitive and always partisan for those affected.
Who can contact the advice centers? Anyone who has questions about education, family or sexual violence is welcome! The advice is free of charge, is subject to confidentiality and can be carried out anonymously. The association Nina and Nico in particular specialize in violence and sexualized violence. An initial interview can usually take place within 14 days, whereby the support is also offered over longer periods.
The four advice centers demand more social awareness of sexual violence. "We hope that the topic will find a place in public," they emphasize. This is the only way to ensure prevention in everyday life. Children's rights have to be actively lived, and the protection of those affected has top priority!
