Traffic chaos in Münster: Big B51 bridge is being demolished!

In the first week of October 2023, an important infrastructure project in Münster will be tackled. From Wednesday evening, October 2, at 7 p.m., the large bridge will be canceled in the hub of the B51 federal road. This measure leads to extensive transport -organizational changes, since both the direction of travel from the motorway junction to the city center and the opposite direction of Weseler Straße are completely blocked out of town.

The detour for traffic takes place via Inselbogen-/Metzer Straße and the bypass, which are clearly signposted to make it easier to avoid the construction site area. There are also alternative routes to Borkstraße for cyclists to ensure safety and mobility during these important construction work. However, a relief for all road users is in sight: from Monday, October 7th, the vehicles can drive again as usual.

extensive construction work for a modern bridge

The demolition project follows the installation of a makeshift bridge last weekend, which makes it possible to maintain the flow of traffic during the construction period. From Wednesday, traffic will be led on both the new bridge and on the makeshift bridge. This strategic planning enables the traffic to be only minimally affected in the connection from the bypass to the motorway and in the opposite direction during the demolition work and the subsequent two -year construction period.

The new construction of this bridge is part of a comprehensive initiative that aims to make the central traffic hub between the A43 and the B51 more efficient. A team of streets.nrw, in cooperation with the companies Echterhoff, Völkmann and Schachtbau Nordhausen, has initiated a so-called Turbo new building. This means that the project goes ahead faster than originally planned. The first bridge in the ramp to the bypass was already completed in the Echterhoff express construction in the summer of this year. The construction work on the large connecting bridge to the motorway should be completed by 2026.

This project is not only a step to renew the infrastructure, but also an example of tailor -made solutions and sustainable modernization in bridge construction. It shows how important it is to develop individual planning for such major projects because there are no universal solutions.

The upcoming changes at the hub will certainly attract attention and require attention from road users who should adapt to possible detours. For concrete information on the traffic situation during the construction work, consult from street.nrw .
