Scandal about Freiburg cathedral band champion: termination shocked choir members!
In the Freiburg Münster, a dramatic end was made: after almost 22 years in office, Boris Böhmann, the estimated cathedral conductor and head of the cathedral school, was terminated in July 2024. This can be seen from current reports, which are supported by the press spokesman for the Archdiocese, which described the decision as necessary to clarify "dissonances in the cathedral singing school" and a lengthy conflict. The termination was now officially effective on February 28, 2025 after the Freiburg Labor Court dismissed Böhmann's lawsuit. He received the termination on a false letterhead, which also scandalizes the situation, such as katholisch.de reported.
It is reported that tensions between Böhmann and other representatives of the archbishopric have been visible for years, which have become particularly visible in the equality of its powers and the artistic decisions. While Böhmann tried to maintain the musical traditions of the Freiburg cathedral, those responsible apparently saw themselves forced to intervene in his decisions - a fact that increasingly undermined his position. The factual softening of management competence also raises the question of how sustainable the artistic influence of a cathedral conductor can be systematically restricted in such a strict regulations. Choir members and supporters complain about the uncertainty for the future of the choir and for the many young singing boys who suffer from the mood high and constant changes.
