Selenskyj demands more Western aid: Ukraine fights against Russian terror

Kiev (dpa) - In an urgent speech, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj called the western partners for increased support in the fight against the Russian war of aggression. He called for helpfulness from the West, which is similar to internationally coordinated support for Israel in times of military crises. In his video statement, which was published in Kiev, he emphasized the need to significantly strengthen Ukrainian air defense. "Every time in the Middle East we see how the international community works together to counter the attacks," said Selenskyj.

The President emphasized that Ukraine needs earlier and stronger military support to effectively combat the so -called “Russian terror”. This includes advanced weapon systems, especially those with a large reach that would enable Ukraine to take attacks in the Russian hinterland. This strategy could help Destabilize Moscow in his warfare and to increase its own security of Ukraine.

In a video that was shared by Selenskyj on social media, the massive destruction that accompanied the attack can be seen. The targeted destruction of civil infrastructure remains a shocking tactic in the ongoing conflict, while rescue workers continue to look for possible survivors. Selenskyj emphasized that such attacks could only be stopped if Ukraine receives the necessary international support.

At an upcoming meeting of the Ukraine supporter group in Ramstein, which is due to take place on October 12th, Ukraine will discuss the still existing opportunities. In this context, Selenskyj also informed about new regulations within the foreign secret service to ensure more effective cooperation.

In addition, Selenskyj had talks with Samantha Power, the head of the U.S. Authority for International Development (USAI). These conversations were about improving the Ukraine energy systems and the construction of protective bunkers for pupils who often have to learn in underground rooms in order to protect themselves from the bombing. Selenskyj was grateful for the United States in all areas of support - be it military, politically or humanitarian. He argued that this cooperation would not only benefit Ukraine, but also other nations, which defend values such as freedom and democracy.

in Kiev also announced Selenskyj that Ukrainian weapons production had grown considerably, which he has attributed the large -scale efforts since the start of the Russian invasion. At a meeting with representatives of the armaments industry, in which companies took part from more than 30 countries, he found the need to win foreign specialist knowledge and technologies in order to further expand armaments production. This puts the basis for Ukraine to establish itself as an important player in global weapon production.

Selenskyj emphasized that Ukraine has already made considerable progress in the production of drones, which contributed to making Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. This is a key component in today's conflict and could offer decisive advantages in the course of the war.

The further development of the situation remains tense and the international reactions will be decisive for how the war in Ukraine unfolds. The need for a strong and uniform international reaction to the challenges that Ukraine faces could not be more urgent.
