Lack of housing forces women into force - SKFM raises the alarm!

The lack of housing in Mettmann has devastating consequences and draws women in a dramatic emergency. The social service of Catholic women and men Mettmann (SKFM) raises the alarm: single women, single mothers and women with children who experience domestic violence are often there without a safe accommodation. SKFM board member Lilo Löffler describes the alarming situation: "Some women are faced with fatal choice: back in the violence or in homelessness." It is a desperate location in which many women are caught and neither help nor a roof over their heads.

The pressing housing shortage

The needs of women are unmistakable. Missing affordable apartments block the urgently needed support offers from the SKFM. After an immediate aid in women's shelters, the path to a stable, own apartment remains blocked for many. Löffler explains that the aid projects cannot be implemented successfully as long as there is a lack of suitable accommodations. The dependence on living space has direct consequences for the security and well -being of women and children.

The dramatic location underlines how urgently measures are required. The SKFM calls for laws and regulations that support women and families and preserve them from returning to violent relationships. The lack of housing is not just a statistical problem, but a merciless reality check for many who are simply looking for a safe home.
