Disaster exercise in Remscheid: Rescue workers train emergency!
In Remscheid, the volunteers of the German Red Cross (DRK) prepare for an important exercise that will take place on Saturday, October 19. The aim is to improve efficiency and processes in disaster protection. The exercise is carried out in the city center of Remscheid, starting on the grounds of Edscha Holding on Hohenhagener Strasse, before going towards the vocational college for economy and administration at around 10 a.m.
A central element of this exercise is the realistic simulation of use scenarios to ensure that the emergency services can be supported in the best possible way. District operations manager Daniel Dolz emphasizes: "We drive without flashing lights and Martinshorn to provide as few irritations as possible." This should not only relax the traffic situation, but also emphasize the realistic character of the exercise.
Why is the exercise a great importance?
The exercise is of crucial importance, especially considering the possibility that the regular emergency services could reach their limits if they are used. "The question is: Who helps when the forces are at the end? It are volunteers who cover disaster protection," explains Dolz. By including the newly recovered DRK unit from Mettmann, coordination between the different units is practiced, which is of crucial importance in real crisis situations.
Although the emergency services are informed in advance that it is an exercise, the exact details are unknown to create the realistic situation. Dolz emphasizes: "First of all, it's about implementing agreements and practicing processes." This shows the efforts of the DRK to promote the operational readiness and teamwork in order to be able to react quickly and efficiently in an emergency.
For those responsible at the DRK, it is important that the exercise is designed as life as possible. If a mission suddenly takes unpredictable twists, all forces have to work well together. Therefore, this exercise day is considered a valuable opportunity to clear misunderstandings and to structure the processes clearly.
The exercise is expected to be finished around 1 p.m. Interested parties can observe the progress of the exercise in the city center and thus get an impression of the professional preparations of the volunteers. It is an opportunity to experience the work of the DRK up close and to see the importance of disaster protection, which is indispensable, especially in times of crisis.
