Training market 2024: Fewer places, more applicants in the Mettmann district!
Kreis Mettmann, Deutschland - In the district of Mettmann, the training market makes headlines! The latest figures from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), the Chamber of Crafts and the Employment Agency show a mixed picture. While more young people have applied for training positions in the past twelve months, the number of companies that offer training positions is falling. An alarming trend that urgently needs attention!
The IHK reports a decline in the completed training contracts: 1,267 contracts have been signed, which corresponds to a minus of 14 contracts or 1.1 percent compared to the previous year. But the situation in the craft looks different! Here impressive 673 training contracts were concluded, a plus of 79 contracts or 13.3 percent! Obviously, the young talents are drawn to the workshops while the industry is weakening.

The career counseling was asked: 2,563 applicants were looking for support, 334 young people are still looking for an apprenticeship. In addition, 327 young people have taken alternative ways, but did not give up their interest in dual training. In order to link these talents with the vacancies, the mediation activities continue until at least the end of the year. The hope remains that even more young people will report in the coming weeks and that companies can fill their free training positions again!
