Ur-traarer discovered: Archaeologists reveal Krefeld's oldest settlement!

In Krefeld-Traar, an astonishing archaeological find was discovered: during an excavation between Moerser Landstrasse and the Elfrather Mühle, the oldest traces of human settlement in the region were brought to light. Archaeologist Dr. Hans-Peter Schletter and his team found evidence that the original traara lived here around 2800 years ago. In their examination of the 8000 square meter property, where a new supermarket is planned, they came across construction structures from the early Iron Age, including post holes and fountains that were documented, such as localklick.eu reported.

The excavation technology included the recording of brands, ceramic shards and charcoal pieces, which indicate that a settlement may have been destroyed by a fire at this point. The four fountains found are remarkable, including a hollowed -out tree trunk, which before 750 BC. BC is dated. These finds are extremely rare and provide valuable insights into the early settlement history of the region, which was already provided through water areas nearby. The team assumes that the settlement was rebuilt several times in the same place, which is unusual for this time, as Dr. Schletter explained.

Scientific evaluation in the course

The excavation was made by Schlettter, the excavation technician Dominik Sarna and Dr. Christoph Reichmann, a former head of the Linn Museum. You are now in the process of completing the scientific evaluation of the results. The region around Krefeld was already a similar excavation in Fischeln target archaeological studies in a similar excavation in 2012/13, in which early residential structures were also discovered. The latest project shows that there is still a lot to discover in this historically important region. The importance of this finds is further investigated and could not only tell local stories, but also show important cultural connections to the Iron Age, which Hans-Peter Schlettter is on academia.edu further.
