Krefeld's winter aid: protection and warmth for homeless people in the city

Feldstraße, 47800 Krefeld, Deutschland - In Krefeld, the cold season becomes a challenge for the needy, but the city administration has launched a comprehensive winter aid program! Together with numerous partners in the social and health area, a network of support offers is provided that offers homeless and people in need. The emergency sleeping point "Obdach Krefeld" on Feldstrasse is only the beginning. A special accommodation for women who has already recorded lively influx in the past few days has been added.

The city administration has established women's accommodation in close cooperation with the Social Service of Catholic Women (SKF), which not only offers accommodation, but also advisory rooms and transitional apartments for women who are looking for a new home. This facility is a safe place that is protected by video surveillance in order to give women in need of protection. Social Affairs Director Sabine Lauxen emphasizes: "Nobody has to live on the street in Krefeld. We have adapted our offers to the acute needs."

diverse offers of help for homeless people

The city's street workers are tirelessly traveling to draw homeless people's attention to the offers of help. At night, up to 90 people can stay in the emergency sleeping place on Feldstrasse, where they not only receive a place to sleep, but also access to sanitary facilities and warm drinks. Sleeping bags and ceilings are also distributed on particularly cold nights to facilitate survival on the street.

Caritas offers another emergency sleeping center for people with addiction, while Diakonie on Lutherstrasse provides a daily stay with 30 places for homeless people. Here the clients can not only enjoy warm drinks, but also wash their laundry and keep personal objects safely. The Caritas Café Break in the Drug Aid Center is also an important point of contact, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and serves as a retreat for drugs.

The station mission at the main train station also offers a central point of contact for everyone who needs help, regardless of whether you have a roof over your head or not. Small aids are offered here and contacts with other advice centers are conveyed. With this extensive auxiliary program, the city of Krefeld shows that it actively takes care of the needs of its citizens and leaves no one in the cold.
