Krefeld celebrates the new logistics center for disaster protection!

Gewerbegebiet Den Ham, Krefeld, Deutschland - Krefeld. On Wednesday, October 9, the new logistics center of the DRK district association Krefeld was inaugurated after around 20 months of construction had passed. Among those present were the Mayor of Krefeld Frank Meyer, DRK district manager Nils Klessa, the chairman Diether Thelen and Dr. Michael Dreuw, Vice President of the DRK State Association of North Rhine, who all raised the importance of the project in their speeches. "We are very satisfied with the construction. The planning has been kept largely and the building fully meets our expectations," said the responsible architect Martin Sulke.

Particularly noteworthy on the new center is the creation of a practice site for the rescue dog squadron, which has emerged from part of the property. "This place enables dog handlers to train their dogs under realistic conditions," emphasized Diether Thelen. In addition to this special facility, the logistics center also offers improved working conditions for employees, both in the main and volunteering, which should give the DRK Krefeld new impulses.

most modern infrastructure for disaster protection

The new, 4200 m² logistics center is not only an architectural highlight, but also equipped with the latest technology. In the impressive vehicle hall that has seven entrance gates, there are space for up to 40 vehicles. This hall is 1500 m² in size and is kept frost -proof to ensure the operational readiness of the vehicles. Boats and other devices are also accommodated for the water watch.

In the administration building, which includes two floors, there are training rooms, storage rooms for the equipment of the rescue dog squadron and a new DRK kitchen. "The modern working conditions will not only benefit our team, but also the emergency services and the people we supply in an emergency," added Thelen.

The remarkable planning of the building also provides for an environmentally friendly heating system that is operated via an air heat pump. The necessary preparations for retrofitting with charging stations for future electric vehicles have already been made. "The building is designed in a future -oriented manner in order to meet the requirements of the next few years," says Sulke.

operational strength in disaster protection

The DRK Krefeld is integrated into different areas of disaster protection, which are financed by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Of these, 2.5 units are responsible for the DRK, while 1.5 units are assigned to the Maltese relief service. The tasks range from medical services to support to technical services and the management of the operational units.

The volunteers are used at large events such as the KFC Uerdingen games or the Krefeld carnival. At the Wasserwacht on Elfrather See, in cooperation with the DLRG, they take care of the safety of swimmers and sailors and also bring in the rescue dog squadron in the search for missing persons, where they are trained in the field as well as with debris.

In addition, the DRK attaches great importance to the inclusion of children and adolescents through the youth red cross, which conveys first aid knowledge and social skills. The non -profit family education center of the DRK also offers a wide range of courses and training courses in health, first aid and many other subject areas.

The costs for the new logistics center amount to around 4 million euros. "We are not only able to ensure the security of the Krefeld population, but also offer a modern ambience for all helpers," concluded Diether Thelen at the inauguration.

The DRK's office remains unchanged at the Burchartz-Hof in Bockum, where various services are still offered, including a clothing store and training rooms.
