Colorful variety: Krefeld celebrates successful intercultural week!
The intercultural week in Krefeld was a complete success, as the organizers pleased. From September 22nd to September 29th, under the motto "New rooms!" An extensive series of events took place that attracted numerous visitors. This initiative was launched by the municipal migration and integration area together with the composite Krefeld migrant organizations (VKMO). The celebrations started on September 21 with a big festival of the encounter on the southern wall.
Visitors were able to look forward to a varied program from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., which put the multicultural diversity in Krefeld in the spotlight. Numerous migrant organizations and institutions for refugee and integration work were on site and offered not only information, but also culinary delights from all over the world. The seductive fragrance of EritRischem coffee passed through the festival, supplemented by Turkish, Ukrainian and Russian specialties, which invited you to linger and exchange ideas. Mayor Karsten Ludwig, the board of the VKMO Mussie Mesghinna and City Director Markus Schön welcomed everyone involved.
diverse stage program and interactive actions
The stage program was also impressive. Among other things, the dance group of the German-Bulgarian Culture and Education Association Mila Rodina, the artist Carlos Grion and the Alevi association contributed to the colorful atmosphere with folkloristic performances. The presentation of the interactive figures of the Ukrainian child Dana and the Arab child in particular caught the eye. These figures are part of the “Children of Peace and Democracy” project and convey an important message: They stand for the children who had to leave their homes due to conflicts and are committed to peace, cohesion and against racism.
These lively performances not only provided entertainment, but also actively invited those present to think about social issues and get involved. During the intercultural week there was a wide range of other events, which included workshops, readings, discussion groups and film screenings. These were selected in a targeted manner in order to focus on current topics such as migration and integration and to promote intercultural exchange.
With this week, the organizers once again demonstrated how important the intercultural dialogue is. Events of this kind not only promote understanding of each other, but also strengthen the feeling of togetherness in the city. The commitment of the media and the numerous volunteers contributed significantly to the success of this series of events. The anticipation for the next intercultural week is already noticeable because expectations and wishes of the community should flow into the planning process.
The entire organization was perceived as "extremely positive" - a sign that the intercultural exchange in Krefeld not only works, but also arrives very well. In the future, it will be important to continue such initiatives in order to strengthen the coexistence and acceptance in society and at the same time link different cultures. A detailed view of the success and developments will certainly also have a significant impact on the next steps for further events.
