horse -drawn trailer in road traffic

When you talk about horse -drawn carriers, the legal question also arises as to how they are treated in road traffic. When a decision by the Cologne District Court, it was made clear that a horse -drawn vehicle, although it is set in motion by horses, is not legally regarded as a motor vehicle within the meaning of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). This information was published on the platform Kehl Legal . Despite the fact that horse -drawn carriers can drive at a top speed of 6 km/h, do not enjoy the same rights as motorized vehicles and are subject to special regulations, especially when it comes to liability issues.

Another interesting aspect of the legal debate is that horses are still considered pets, even if they take part in road traffic. This classification has a significant impact on the liability of the owners if a horse causes damage, for example if it damages a parked car. The legal differentiations in relation to liability and classification of wagons present the owners of challenges that go far beyond the ordinary requirements of road traffic.
