Panda lady Kamala: Fire brigade saves from tree tops at dusk!

Kleve, Deutschland - An exciting evening in Kleve! On October 29, 2024, the fire brigade was called to a spectacular animal rescue operation - and for a very special red panda. The trusting lady Kamala had left her whereabouts and was discovered by zoo workers outside of her facility. The emergency call was canceled around a quarter to seven and it quickly became clear: Kamala had to go back home!

It was not an everyday commitment for the fire brigade. Fire inspector Florian Pose and his team of five started looking together with a thermal chart. Where, could you ask, do you see a panda except in your enclosure? Kamala was first spotted near the trampling animal facility, and the search quickly concentrated on the neighboring park. Within a few minutes, the drone had already left the feathered life behind and discovered a heat -designed presence in the tree tops - the rescue could begin!

The dramatic rescue operation

at a height of about 15 meters, Kamala had settled in an oak. A normal ladder was out of the question. After a short consultation, the aerial ladder of the fire truck was requested. Tiergarten director Martin Polotzek and a fireman bravely got into the basket, ready to rescue the sweet outlier. With a kescher and the support of their teams, they managed to bring Kamala back to their enclosure safely. "The assignment was exceptional - I thank the fire brigade for their commitment," said Polotzek. Finally, Kamala was able to return to her familiar surroundings intact and safely.

The fire brigade was on site with an entire operational group of seven forces from Reichswalde and three forces from the aerial crew from the Kleve fire truck. The whole spectacle lasted about three hours, with the priority clearly on the safety of the cute panda. Special precautions will be taken in the coming days to ensure that Kamala can no longer go on adventure hunting in the future!
