Glass magic in Kleve: Carolin Zibulka transforms light into works of art

kleve. The fascinating glass art by Carolin Zibulka draws everyone's attention! Their works, inspired by frozen lava flows and mysterious landscapes, are more than just art - they are lively experiences!

"Stand further to the left and then look again!" A simple look, and the colors explode! What previously shimmered in dark green now shines in a bright purple or bright blue. In her studio in Kleve, Zibulka shows that glass is far more than an everyday material. Her work, titled with names such as "change" and "orbit", reveal organic shapes and profound water landscapes that kidnap the viewer into another world. The 36-year-old artist managed to capture the magic of nature in her glass pieces-and with an impressive 3D effect!

The art of lavacoating

But how does this extraordinary art come about? Zibulka works in layers and on the negative side of the glass, similar to a printer. Each layer must dry for 24 hours before the next is applied. "It can require a lot of patience," she explains with a smile. Her technique, which she calls "lavacoating", gives the pictures the illusion of frozen lava. "What comes out in the end is always a surprise for me," says the Kevelaer native, who is proud that each of her works is unique.

With her partner Tim Neldner, Zibulka has visited and plans numerous artisan markets in recent years to exhibit their works in the renowned Gallery O in Ascona, Switzerland in the coming year. Contemporary glass art is very important there! "I am pleased about the interest that I sparked in the Netherlands," she says. Her work, which is often inspired by volcanic landscapes and water movements, could soon find international recognition!
