Trocking in the huxarium: bargain hunt and historical treasures!
Höxter, the picturesque city on the Weser, transformed into a paradise for junk lovers on Sunday, October 13th. The historic flower hall in the Huxarium Gartenpark becomes a setting for the first flea market, where bargain hunters can get their money's worth from 7 a.m. Here, up to 40 exhibitors in the large wooden hall and outside offer a diverse offer: from used household items to ancient treasures to unique collector's pieces.
The event is organized by Michael Suermann, the operator of S.V.S. Flea and flea markets that emphasize that it is exclusively marketable, private goods. "New goods have no business here, everything comes from private individuals," explains Suermann. This is particularly exciting for the visitors, as every gait over the flea market brings with it the feeling of a small treasure hunt. And even in rainy weather, the flea market can be visited, because the roofing is protected from moisture.
a variety of offers
The location of the flea market is the Archaeology Park on the Weserbogen, in the immediate vicinity of the Corvey Castle. In 2023, the large flower hall was still the scene for the state garden show, where the focus was on plant rarities. Now there are completely different treasures there on October 13th. Suermann describes the special fascination of the flea markets: "Here you feel like Indiana Jones, because you never know what miracles await you."
For 30 years, S.V.S. Flea and flea markets active in East Westphalia-Lippe and regularly carries out markets in cities such as Bodenwerder, Detmold or Barntrup. Interested exhibitors can still register for the event in Höxter to present their own stand. Suermann is convinced: "A Sunday at the flea market is a popular hobby for many Germans."
But not only the flea market itself is a highlight. In addition to the stands, there is also a special attraction: visitors have the opportunity to acquire original stones from the Middle Ages that come from a live excavation of the city archecologist Ralf Mahytka. These exclusive pieces are only offered in a limited edition of 50 pieces and come with a certificate of authenticity. "Each stone costs a donation of five euros that will benefit the garden show funding association," said Mahytka. A piece of history for home - the purchase of a stone is definitely worthwhile.
In addition, Mahytka will offer free tours of the Archaeology Park at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Visitors will learn exciting information about the history of a destroyed city, which was victim of an attack in 1265. This is one of the rare city deserts in Germany and offers interesting findings for research.
Technological innovations are also not neglected: visitors can look forward to augmented reality demonstrations, who virtually bring historical buildings such as the surgeon house or the large market church. In this way, the participants not only learn a lot about history, they can also experience them interactively.
The flea market is also family -friendly. While the adults go on a treasure hunt, the children in the archaeology sandbox can reproduce old finds or have fun on the adventure playground. A brave highlight is the 17 meter high climbing tower, which was once the chipboard of a sawmill. Entry to the Archaeology Park is free of charge to the flea market, so that something is offered for everyone.
While the flea event promises an exciting shopping experience, the entire event also offers a way to experience history up close-an absolutely worthwhile destination for October 13th. So if you are in the region, you should not miss this event.
