First flea market in the Huxarium: bargains and history for the whole family!
In the picturesque Höxter, an exciting journey of discovery in the Huxarium Gartenpark is on Sunday, October 13th. The former flower hall, which was a place of plant rarities during the state garden show, turns into a lively junk zone that day. The first flea market there promises to become a paradise for bargain hunters who are looking for antiques and collector's pieces.
From 7 a.m., visitors have the opportunity to stroll through the large wooden hall and the outdoor area, where up to 40 exhibitors offer their treasures. Interestingly, admission is free for all visitors, which makes this flea market particularly attractive.
exclusively private providers
Michael Suermann, the organizer of S.V.S. Flea and flea markets, makes it clear that the focus is on used goods. "We completely do without new goods, only private providers will build their stands with household items and second-hand clothing," he explains. Even on a rainy Sunday, the flea market remains an ideal goal, since exhibitors and visitors are supplied in the covered hall.
The event takes place in Corvey, more precisely at the harbor. Wherever the fauna was the focus in the garden show year 2023, treasures from local attics and cellars are now waiting for curious explorers. Suermann compares the search for the right finds with an adventure: "Every flea market visitor is looking for an search like Indiana Jones and doesn't know what to expect." This spontaneous type of shopping adds a special voltage to the atmosphere of the flea markets.
A flourishing business for decades
Although it is the first event market in the flower hall, Suermann is no stranger to the field. He has been organizing markets in East Westphalia-Lippe (OWL) for over 30 years and has already won many fans for this pastime. "The flea market visit on Sunday is not for nothing of the German hobby," he sums up.
In addition to the flea stands, the flea market is accompanied by special offers in the archaeology park. Visitors have the opportunity to acquire real stones from the Middle Ages that were discovered during a live excavation by the city archologist Ralf Mahytka. This limited edition of only 50 stones is accompanied by a matter of authenticity and costs 5 euros per stone, which goes to the garden show funding association as a donation.
Mahytka emphasizes that these stones are not just decoration: "This enables you to secure a relic from an exciting chapter of Höxteran city history for at home." In addition, interested parties can purchase a maximum of one stone per person. It also offers free guided tours through the Archaeology Park, in which visitors can learn a lot about the lost city. This city was destroyed in 1265 by the Paderborn bishop and the neighbors from Höxter and is of particular importance for researchers, since such city deserts are rare.
It will also be particularly exciting for technology lovers: the augmented reality representations are also presented to visitors on the flea market day, so that they can experience virtual insights into historical buildings such as the House of the surgeon and the old Hellweg trade road on their smartphones or tablets. With a view to the family friendliness of the flea market, younger visitors are also taken care of. While the parents rummage through the flea stands in peace, the children can have fun in the archaeology sandpit or let off steam on the adventure playground. The former chipboard of a sawmill serves as an exciting 17 meter high climbing tower, which certainly ensures a lot of fun. During the flea market, admission to the Archaeology Park is also free.
The first garden park flea market in Höxter not only promises a relaxed shopping experience, but also the opportunity to dive deep into the history of the region and to enjoy the green nature in a unique environment. For everyone who thinks of a picture of Sunday, October 13, this is an unforgettable experience that should not be missed.
