UN boss warns: escalation in Yemen threatens the civilian population!

Sanaa, Jemen - UN General Secretary António Guterres again called for de-escalation after the Israeli air strikes in Yemen. These attacks were directed against the international airport of Sanaa, several ports on the Red Sea and power plants in the country and were classified as alarming by Guterres, such as Radio Herford reported. The Israeli army defended its actions with the argument that the attacks on the infrastructure of the Huthi militia at Sanaa Airport were a necessary reaction to the repeated attacks by the Huthi to Israeli territory. The Huthi militia is known for firing drones and rockets on Israel and has close connections to Hamas in the Gaza Strip and to the Hisbollah in Lebanon. They are also said to receive military infrastructure from Iran.

Appeal to protect the civilian population

Guterres emphasized the need to protect the civilian population and civilian infrastructure in conflict areas. He referred to Huthi's escalating actions for one year in the Red Sea, which represent a significant threat to the civilian population and regional stability. He also added that the air strikes are a shame at a time when millions of people in Yemen rely on life -saving humanitarian aid.

A team from the World Health Organization (WHO), led by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, recently also got under fire. This development raises additional worrying questions about the security of humanitarian efforts in Yemen, as well as
