Creativity against the disease: Sandra Klein's inspiring children's book

The 55-year-old Sandra Klein lives in a cheerful, yellow house with green-painted windows. After difficult times, she is committed to optimism and firmly believes that life can be colorful and colored even in dark moments. This attitude to life is particularly noteworthy because she, as a single mother of two adult daughters, had to deal with many challenges. It was particularly dark five years ago when she received recovery requests for her milestone birthday, while at the same time getting the devastating diagnosis of Waldenström, a type of cancer

The shock was great and her thoughts continued to revolve around the transience of life. "When I reviewed the day, I noticed that it cannot continue, but that you have to use the time that remains meaningfully," reflects Klein, who decided to regain life. She found her creativity back, jumped with her grandchildren through puddles and made her joy in life bloom. But due to the symptoms of her illness, such as muscle pain and constant tiredness, she was forced to change her way of working in kindergarten.

a children's book full of values

Despite these hurdles, Klein did not want to give up her passion for working with children. So she dipped deeper into the world of poetry, photography and painting, and as part of a rehabilitation stay, she finally came up with the idea of writing a children's book. "Especially when it gets gray, it is all the more important to believe in itself," she says. Together with the artist Dietmar Herglan, whom she met during rehabilitation, she realized her vision.

The result is a colorful children's book entitled "Harry Will Knowing it - my adventure with people". The story is about a friendly sea monster that leaves its habitat and finds new friends in the world of people. Sandra Klein is important not only to tell an entertaining story, but also to convey essential values that often go under in our fast -moving times. "With the book, I would like to convey values to the children and the parents that are often lost in this world - and translated into the language of preschool children," she explains.

These values contain respect and the protection of nature. The book also addresses the importance of spending time with loved ones. "At a time when children are often parked in front of screens, there are completely different things in the foreground," Klein criticizes the current social situation.

In order to actively integrate the readership, the book contains several interaction options. "I wanted to actively involve the children. I installed passages in which parents or educators can be involved in an interview with the children," says Klein. Such interactions and reflections were often missing in books other than she worked in kindergarten every day.

in new ways

Klein's goal is that your book can be used in daycare centers and primary schools. Her own grandchildren are already big fans and can memorize the story, while the reviews of the children are still standing in their kindergarten. The book has been published as ‘Book on Demand’ and available in every bookstore under ISBN number 9783758311147.

Klein already has the prospect of the next project: a story for adults. But no matter what genre the next story will be in, one thing is clear: color and optimism will also dominate there. "It is important not to lose hope. After dark days, new, bright days can always come," she concludes. Her inspiring journey, which once started from an illness, shows how creativity and courage to live life and helps to rediscover your own values.
