Police Hamm strengthens intercultural dialogue with new contact officers

In a courageous step to promote intercultural dialogue, the Hamm police created a new job for intercultural and religious affairs! Since September 1, 2024, police commissioner Christoph Graf has been the new contact officer, who has taken on the important task of building bridges between different faith communities and the police. This initiative is a direct answer to the growing cultural and religious diversity in Germany, which is characterized by globalization and migration.

The previous contact officer, Dirk Püttner, has done valuable work for over seven years to strengthen confidence in Muslim institutions in the city. Police President Thomas Kubera praised Püttner's commitment and emphasized how important it is to maintain relationships with these communities. Now Graf will not only maintain contact with Muslim institutions, but also to members of other beliefs and intercultural associations that are often faced with discrimination, such as the Sinti and Roma.

a strong sign against discrimination

"We have to turn to the people who are attacked by anti -democratic forces," explains Kubera. Graf's new role is aimed at reducing fear of contact and strengthening trust in the police. In view of the current geopolitical tensions, it is more important than ever that society moves together. Graf emphasizes: "We have to build bridges in order to maintain our relationship of trust and not to have external interference." In order to meet these requirements, Graf will continue to be active in various communities and facilities to promote exchange and to strengthen the intercultural competence of the police.
