Kaufhof-Immobilie sold in Hamm: Politics cheer on a new plan!

In the city of Hamm, the sale of the Kaufhof property causes a stir. A group of investors from Hamm has acquired the property with the vacant department store on Bahnhofstrasse, and the political reaction to it is consistently positive. Parties such as CDU, FDP, Greens and SPD welcome this step, which indicates a common interest in the future design of the city center.

The condition of the property is particularly disappointing, which has so far made the city appear not very decorative. Nevertheless, the SPD parliamentary group leader Justus Moor described this sale as an important milestone for the future of the city center. He emphasizes that this development not only promotes purchasing, but can also create space for culture and an urban living concept. "We are experiencing the invention of a new city center for Hamm in real time," emphasizes Moor, praising the merit of Mayor Marc Herter and City Councilor Andreas Mentz.

political enthusiasm for the Kaufhof sale

Ralf Steinhaus, group leader of the CDU, sees a 142 chance in the project that strengthens the strategic concept of his party. The CDU has long been pursuing the goal of bringing new life to the city center through new residential, office and commercial space. "This will be a successful continuation of our previous activities," said Steinhaus.

The FDP, which had initiated the renovation of the station quarter five years ago, is also optimistic. Group chairman Ingo Müller is enthusiastic that the purchase of the Kaufhof has been made a significant step towards the implementation of these plans. "We are particularly happy about this great progress," he said.

On the side of the Greens, the purchase is seen as a "big profit for Hamm". This political group sees the opportunity to provide offers at such a central location that are not only modern, but also sustainable. "We have to develop innovative concepts that are both ecologically and socially sustainable," said a leading representative of the Greens.

uncertain future plans

Despite the euphoria about the sales conclusion, the future of the property remains uncertain. It is clear that nothing will change so quickly on the external appearance of the old department store. The new owners, represented by Green Roof GmbH, have announced that they will soon start planning and development for the property. Managing Director Franz Venker and Simon Schneider, however, are cautious about concrete schedules when structural changes can actually be implemented.

A remarkable point is that the city of Hamm had already commissioned a feasibility study on the property in 2021. The Düsseldorf architecture firm Hentrich Petschnigg & Partner (HPP) presented two development variants. The new buildings should draw a clear border to the train station, Gustav-Heinemann and Luisenstrasse and include a green courtyard. However, investors have emphasized that they are not bound to these concepts, even though they want to orientate themselves in their planning.

For the development of the new inner city in Hamm, this sale, as the political actors emphasize, is a crucial step that can bring about urban and economic change. The discussion about the future use of the Kaufhof site will certainly continue to ensure conversation in the coming months, since the city and its citizens hope for a positive development.
