Hagen Rether: Cabaret with bite - love and human inadequacies
Kiel, Deutschland - Kiel. An evening full of sharp words and profound questions! The brilliant cabaret artist Hagen Rether pulled all the stops of his art in the sold -out Kiel Schauspielhaus. With his “Love” program, he asked the most pressing questions of our time and not only made the audience laugh, but also think. With his clamping board on the thighs and a ballpoint pen, which he had snapping several times, he challenged the audience: "I wanted to ask them if they have an idea?" A rhetorical trick that made the tension in the room noticeable.
Rether, the master of the dialectical "pressure refueling", did not take a leaf out of his mouth. In his velvet-soft chat, he worked on the human inadequacies, especially on the political pseudo-elites in Germany. Names like Lindner, Kubicki and Merz fell, and Rether couldn't help but a swipe: "The Diether always played it. With a sharp tongue he drilled into the wounds of society and asked uncomfortable questions: Why do we build our prosperity on corpses? Why are billionaires not finally taxed properly? And why are many fighting so hard for their schnitzel?
an evening full of questions and humor
Rether did not miss out any topic. He spoke about the social disadvantage of women and the ignorance of the climate catastrophe. "We used to have acid rain," he noticed with an ironic smile while pointing to the burning forests worldwide. But despite the dark topics, Rether never lost his humor. Towards the end of the evening, he asked himself why he did not resign in the face of misery. His answer was clear: "Hope is a human right." With an urgent appeal, he reminded of the Holocaust survivors, who still explain in schools after 80 years. So Rether managed to create an illuminating and exhilarating moments in the middle of the Düsternis that stimulated the audience to think.
