Christmas market in Buer: Greens demand return to the old shine!

Gelsenkirchen-Buer. This year the Christmas market in Gelsenkirchen-Buer is greatly reduced, and the Greens beat the alarm: "This is not acceptable!"

The traditional Christmas market, which usually takes place on the high road from late November to December 23, will not be organized this year. An organizer could not be found! Instead, there is only a five -day Nikolausmarkt on the cathedral plate and some smaller events. This drastic change has called the Greens on the scene that accuses the city of Gelsenkirchen.

criticism of city administration and lack of resources

"The cancellation of the Christmas market will disappoint many people," explains Peter Tertocha, the group leader of the Greens. He thanks the committed citizens from Buer who managed to put together at least a reduced program. But the Greens demand more: "Those responsible in the administration have informed everyone involved much too late," continued Tertocha. The city marketing company Gelsenkirchen faces "structural problems"-resources and sponsors are missing!

The green urges immediate measures and creative ideas for the future of the Christmas market. "We are calling for the city to take responsibility," says Bernd Rudde, the chairman of the Greens in the North District Representation. Suggestions such as art markets, winter light festivals or a pop-up winter village are supposed to liven up Buer and create a festive atmosphere. To ensure that the Christmas market will be bigger and better next year, the Greens are stating to start planning. A survey from 2020 showed that 63 percent of the citizens want a central Christmas village on the cathedral plate!
