Gelsenkirchen says no to the eerie Halloween party in the allotment garden
Gelsenkirchen, Deutschland - In the Ruhr area, the anticipation of Halloween is subdued this year. Instead of festivities and eerie celebrations, there is now an unexpected setback for the organizers of a popular horror party in Gelsenkirchen. Marvin Lengk, who has been organizing a ghostly event in his allotment for five years, has to accept the cancellation of his event this year.
The city has banned the event and thus causes confusion and disappointment. "You say 180. I was really at 1000. I was so angry," says Lengk frustrated. According to the city, his allotment garden, in which he previously created his own horror lounge, is classified as a so -called grave country. This special use only allows the planting of one -year plants, a violation of this rule is therefore the reason for the ban that makes its event impossible in the current form.
The background of the ban
A few years ago, Lengk and his team were still supported by the city, which even advertised the events. "In 2019 and 2020 even the city of Gelsenkirchen advertised us," says Lengk. However, this turn shocked because the city now makes it clear that the use of the site is not intended for such events. This led to an intensive conversation between the Lengk and an urban representative that did not lead to a compromise. The return to strict rules and guidelines when using allotment gardens results in important functional changes in the city. For years, the allotment gardens could also be used for events, but now new provisions and a harder handling of the regulations seem to be the order of the day. For many residents who loved the extraordinary celebrations, the decision is difficult to endure.
The case raises questions about the future use of urban space and about the possibilities of integrating leisure activities into the city. This discussion is reinforced by the loud disappointment of Marvin Lengk, who designed his elaborate horror decoration and the preparation of his events with great attention to detail. The city of Gelsenkirchen is now faced with the challenge of finding a balance between compliance with regulations and supporting cultural events.
