Mechernich celebrates the new triumvirate: Carnival mood on the Brunnenplatz!

A spectacular carnival moment in Mechernich! In shady autumn weather, around 300 enthusiastic spectators gathered on Brunnenplatz to celebrate the proclamation of the new triumvirate. Prince Joachim I. (Vossel), farmer Werner (Echtner) and Virgin Johanna (Johann Klöcker) are now at the top of the Jecken and will lead the fools through the upcoming session. Albert Meyer, chairman of the festival committee, summed it up: "The three are hot as frit fat"!

The event marks the end of a multi -year tolerance break in Mechernich. Five years ago, youth princess Pauline I (Gerhards) was introduced to her office and now ceremoniously adopted. "I am happy to have experienced the time as a princess with my dad, who died in the flood in 2021," said the 18-year-old emotionally. The celebrations were accompanied by musical performances and a colorful program that put the audience in a high mood.

The Mechernich carnivalists opened their session for the second time with an open-air event. When the "robbers", the headliners of the afternoon, appeared, the number of spectators grew to around 400. The new triumvirate, freshly equipped with insignia, broadcast musical greetings to the fools. "In love with Mechernich" and "A friend, a good friend", the three new rulers voted, while their wives celebrated proudly on stage.

The Hovener Jung Carnivalists provided a exuberant mood with guard dances and folds and heated the crowd. But there is a significant tradition before: the IG Roggendorf carnival, which has been handing over the scepter to the Mechernich prince since 1935, will dissolve in the coming year. Willi Ronig, Chairman of the IG, announced that the responsibility for the scepter is now transferring to the Mechernich Carnival Committee. One last "Roggendorf Helau" sounded with this proclamation and marks the end of an era.
