Freiburg and Mainz: T goalless draw in the fight for Europe!
In a tense duel of the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg and FSV Mainz 05 separated on Saturday with a disappointing 0-0 draw. The 34,400 spectators in Freiburg experienced a game that was more characterized by duels than by goalkeeping scenes. For Freiburg it was the first draw under coach Julian Schuster, while Mainz remains undefeated. Despite the intensive efforts of both teams, clear chances of scoring remained in short supply.
The Freiburg ended the 9th matchday in sixth place and thus consolidated their ambitions to a place in the European Cup. Mainz, on the other hand, gets stuck in the lower half of the table. There was a surprise before the game when FSV coach Bo Henriksen announced that international Jonathan Burkardt could not play because of a muscle injury. But the supposed failure turned out to be a bluff - Burkardt stormed and made it for the first corner of the guests in the 11th minute.
little goal opportunities
The game started with a header from Freiburg Lukas Kübler, who, however, was no danger to the goalkeeper Robin Zentner in Mainz. On the other hand, SC captain Christian Günter had to intervene at the last second to prevent an Anthony Caci shot. Freiburg showed up in the first section as the more active team, but the greatest chance missed Junior Adamu, who failed freely in front of hundredweight. After the break, the game remained highly contested without changing the goalless balance. Even the change of both trainers did not bring a breath of fresh air, and so it remained the righteous draw.
