In the Ennepe-Ruhr district, the time has come again! School classes can register for the exciting non -smoking competition 'Be Smart - Don’t Start', which begins on November 11, 2024 and lasts until April 25, 2025. By November 9th, the schools have the opportunity to be there and camp against smoking. The special? For the classes that remain successful, a great price is waving: 5,000 euros for the class fund!

The rules are simple. At least 90 percent of the students of a class must commit to let smoking be for half a year. You can't do that, you are out of the competition! At least 720 classes from Westphalia-Lippe were successful last year. The focus of the competition is not only not only smoking cigarettes, but also not having to do without e-cigarettes, Shishas and other nicotine products. "Non-smoking is an essential topic for children and young people," says AOK service manager Jörg Kock. The competition has the goal of encouraging the participants not to start smoking at all.

The registration takes place easily online at www.besmart.info. In addition to the great cash prizes, creative actions are also rewarded that put the advantages of non -smoking in the spotlight. Schools are not only motivated, but also for their commitment to health. "Smoking not only has an impact on personal health, but also on the environment," says Martina Ries, AOK Prevention expert. The competition also aims to clarify the young people about the climate -damaging effects of tobacco consumption.

Simone Leucfeld from the Institute for Therapy and Health Research emphasizes that awareness of the environmental impact of smoking is often neglected. "The industry has particularly recognized the young people as a target group and actively promotes e-products," she warns. Participation in 'Be Smart - Don’t Start' is not only a contribution to your own health, but also to the formation of consciousness for a better future!
