Chaos on the streets at the start of the holiday? This is what it looks like in NRW!
At the beginning of the Christmas holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, the expected chaos on the highways were initially absent. According to the WDR traffic studio, there were only 16 traffic disruptions in the late afternoon. The traffic on the A3 between Leverkusen and Cologne was particularly dense, where traffic jams formed in about ten kilometers. There were also four kilometers of traffic jams and minor delays on the A4 around Cologne. This information was posted on Westfalen-blatt .
The ADAC had predicted before the holidays that Friday, December 20, will be the most stowed day of the holiday. Roman Suthold, head of the Transport and Environment Department at ADAC North Rhine, explained that rush hour traffic, holiday travelers and gift collectors were on the road at the same time in the afternoon. The most critical accident sites were designated as the A3 around Cologne and the Kais Kaiserberg in Duisburg. An increase in travel at the airports is also expected, with 800,000 passengers at Düsseldorf Airport, which means an increase of about ten percent compared to the previous year.
traffic jam and lack of parking in the city centers
On the 4th of Advent, drivers are required in NRW, because the streets will be overcrowded, as the ADAC predicts. In parallel to the Christmas worries and travel traffic, the parking pressure in the city centers also increases significantly. Especially on Saturday and Monday immediately before Christmas Eve, parking spaces are expected. In order to avoid traffic jams and parking passes, the ADAC recommends to turn off the car on the outskirts and switch to public transport. From December 26th, however, a return trip was to be expected, which should nevertheless be quite relaxed, as Ruhr Nachrichten reported.
