Storm deep Bernd devastates the North Palatinate Land: chaos on streets and rails!

In the Donnersberg region, considerable damage was caused by the storm low Bernd. According to a report of the Rheinpfalz were the fire brigades and roadmasters until evening. The country road between Gerbach and Dielkirchen had to be temporarily locked due to the wind break. A train between Alsenz and Oberndorf drove into a tree crown, but did not escape, and there were no injuries. This led to several train failures on the Alsenztalbahn.

Trees tilted trees in different locations in the region. The areas of the Wolfsmühle in Waldgrehweiler and the surrounding area of Randeck Castle near Mannweiler-Cölln were particularly affected, where a larger boulder loosened, but remained next to the road. In Waldgrehweiler, the water level of the Moschel rose strongly, and forecasts indicate possible flood values from Wednesday to Thursday. The storm brought gusts of over 100 kilometers per hour, especially in the western part of Germany.

missions in Düsseldorf due to storm deep bernd

A comprehensive report by düsseldorf.de documents the missions since this July 14, 2021 were in constant use for almost five days. Over 1,900 areas of application were registered, with citizens, full of the basement, underground garages and high levels on water. Up to 500 emergency services of the professional fire brigade, volunteer fire brigade, technical relief organization and DLRG were mobilized.

The fatal accident of a 57-year-old resident in his basement apartment in Vennhausen, whose death is examined by the criminal police, was particularly tragic. Around 15 houses in the Ostparkiedlung are still affected, and due to the high groundwater level, the emergency services were unable to pump any basements.

The fire brigade observed the water levels of the waters and took measures to suck contaminated water, which was partly contaminated by heating oil. Despite intensive efforts by the fire brigade, the 57-year-old resident could only be recovered dead. The Düsseldorf fire brigade was mostly busy with the missions by July 19, but some basements remain under water due to the groundwater situation.
