Serious accident on the A46: Four vehicles collide with Erkelenz!

On Sunday afternoon, December 22, 2024, there was a terrible traffic accident on the A46 at Erkelenz-Ost in the direction of travel. Around 2 p.m. a total of four vehicles collided, with a car skiding several times, which may have been caused by the adverse weather conditions with hailstorm. The vehicles were partly side by side, while a car continued several meters and finally came to a standstill on the guardrail. The occupants were locked in this vehicle, which caused the fire brigade to carry out a rescue operation to free the driver. According to the information from Heinsberg magazine , a total of seven people had to be treated, including five slightly injured.

The highway was completely closed during the rescue measures to make access easier for the emergency services. The route was only released at around 3:50 p.m., as the Aachener Zeitung reported. The police in Düsseldorf announced that the exact circumstances of the accident are currently still being determined. The incident raises questions regarding traffic safety in demanding weather conditions after the road conditions were significantly impaired by rain and snow. The injured were immediately brought to nearby hospitals, but there is no danger to them.
