Massive strikes: Thousands of flights and local transport in NRW are still!
In a dramatic advance in the tariff dispute between the Verdi union and the employers' associations, an all -day warning strike will be announced at eleven German airports next Monday. The workers called for work at large commercial airports such as Munich, Frankfurt am Main and Berlin/Brandenburg, which has massive effects on air traffic. According to estimates by the ADV airport associations, over 3,400 flights will fail, which affects hundreds of thousands of passengers. Vienna Airport reported that 45 flights between Vienna and German airports are canceled, including connections to Graz, Salzburg and Innsbruck, OE24.
Not only the airports stand still! The union also extends its measures to numerous local transport companies in North Rhine-Westphalia. In Düsseldorf and Cologne, public transport connections are paralyzed on Monday, which means that travelers have to expect significant restrictions. Among other things, Verdi calls for a wage increase of eight percent and additional free days - concerns that were rejected by the employers as not implementable. Large rallies and protest actions are planned in many cities, such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung

The strikes that should go into the third round of negotiations on Friday not only include airports, but also urban services such as daycare and clinics, as well as bus and train traffic. Especially in Düsseldorf, the authorities expect that up to 5,000 striking participants take part in the rallies that will extend across the country. According to the OE24 , the work-layouts are intended as a strategy in order to increase the pressure on employers. Inland navigation and municipal services are also affected - a sign of the far -reaching disputes that could increase in the near future.
